MANSON — Ever since I was a kid in Portland, I’ve been fascinated with sports statistics.

I got the bug as a 7-year-old, racing to check out the latest baseball and football box scores in The Oregonian or The Oregon Journal after my Dad finished with the newspapers.

It should be no surprise then that shortly after joining RunWenatchee a few years ago I dived into past results from our Lake Chelan Shore to Shore Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10K (the 13th-annual running of the event is coming up on Sept. 6).

The lists are dotted with familiar names. The very first marathon winners in 2001 were Manson’s Craig Elsner (a time of 3:00:46 in the men’s race) and Wenatchee’s Lori Dunley (3:32:28 in the women’s race).

The first marathon runner to break the 3-hour mark was Wenatchee’s Brandon Hoglund in 2005 (2:50:50). Leavenworth’s Marlene Farrell followed suit in 2007 with a time of 2:58:14.

Last year, Seattle’s Bill Condon posted the fastest marathon time ever at Shore to Shore — a 2:45:29.

Elsner is the only runner to have captured more than one marathon (he also won in 2004). Multiple winners in the half-marathon include Hoglund (2004, 2007, 2008); Chelan’s Julie Pittsinger (2003, 2005); and Seattle’s Bjorn Begelman (2006, 2009). Wenatchee’s Selina Danko has triumphed once in the marathon (2008) and once in the half-marathon (2011).

All of this is what is currently on paper. Sometimes the stats dude needs help, you see.

RunWenatchee took over operation of the Shore to Shore event in 2011. Prior to that we had no involvement with the race. I’ve searched all available records and waded through the web and even some old newspaper archives but have yet to nail down every race winner through the years.

Please look through the lists below — it’s fun to see who won which races and their times — and note what is missing. If you can help us fill the remaining holes, please let me know at stephenmaher67@yahoo.com or on the RunWenatchee Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/RunWenatchee.
