Oktoberfest Trail Runs

oktoberfest-2016-cone4The Oktoberfest Trail Runs (10-mile and 5-Mile, plus a kids race) are held on Wenatchee National Forest lands near Leavenworth, with the start and finish occurring at the Leavenworth Ski Hill facility, located two miles north of the town of Leavenworth.

This event is held during the third and final weekend of Leavenworth’s famous Oktoberfest celebration.

This event also serves as a fundraiser for the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club, which operates the Ski Hill.

Description: The 10-mile route will take trail runners from the start at Leavenworth Ski Hill onto the 4 the Boyz Memorial Trail and then the Rosie Boa Trail to the Freund Canyon Trail. Runners will run down Freund Canyon to 4 the Boyz and then back to the Ski Hill.  This is a challenging and hilly course.

The 5-mile run will be entirely on the existing ski hill trail system. This course is hilly and challenging, but is perfect for the beginning trail runner.

The kids run will be a 2K route.

Start times: 8:30 a.m. for the 10-Mile, 8:45 a.m. for the 5-Mile, and 9 a.m. for the 2K kids run.

Packet pickup: 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts, 7409 Icicle Road, Leavenworth; and from 7 to 8:15 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Leavenworth Ski Hill, 10701 Ski Hill Drive.

In-person registration: 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts, 7409 Icicle Road, Leavenworth; and from 7 to 8:15 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Leavenworth Ski Hill, 10701 Ski Hill Drive.

Parking: The Leavenworth Ski Hill has parking. However, as always, we encourage people to car pool or use alternative means of transportation if they can.

Essentials: We will have three fully staffed and supplied aid stations on the courses. Stations will have water, energy drink and gels. Runners are encouraged to bring hydration packs/water bottles and/or energy food to carry on this course.

Trash: Leave no trace. Be kind to our beautiful and amazing Wenatchee National Forest and Leavenworth area and clean up after yourself. Please don’t abandon trash.

Course note: These trails are open to all users during the event, so if a runner encounters a mountain biker or a hiker, please give the other user the right of way.

Runner premiums and other activities: Participants will receive a cool shirt with our signature Oktoberfest Trail Runs logo and entry to a post-race party at the Leavenworth Ski Hill Lodge. Here is a closer look at the post-race party and a trail running film festival that RunWenatchee is helping put on the night before:

7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13 – Trails In Motion Film Festival. Held at Snowy Owl Theater, the film festival features nine short trail running films centered around such themes as perseverance, individual quirkiness and trail camaraderie. You also will be treated to footage from some of the world’s most amazing destinations. Film fest proceeds benefit Wenatchee Valley TREAD, a new regional trails organization. Tickets are $15 adults and $7 students. They also can be purchased at the door.

10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14 – Free post-race party in the historic Ski Hill Lodge. RunWenatchee will provide complimentary Icicle Brewing Bootjack IPA and Dirty Face Amber to participants 21 years of age and older AND complimentary brats in buns from Top Color Catering for all participants. Join us in the historic lodge after the races to swap stories and to cozy up next to a nice roaring fire!

Individual awards: Top three male and female finishers in each event will receive an award. Kids will receive a finisher’s prize.
