WENATCHEE — RunWenatchee will hold six official race events, including two trail runs, in 2014, the group has announced.

The first event on RunWenatchee’s schedule is the Bundle-Up Run 5K in Wenatchee on Jan. 25. The race, geared for both runners and walkers, is being held in conjunction with the Wenatchee Valley Winterfest celebration.

The 2013 River Run attracted a record number of participants, including these two.

That event will be followed by the two trail runs — the second-annual Horse Lake Trail Run in the Wenatchee Foothills on May 10 and the fourth-annual Red Devil Challenge 25K and 10K in the Wenatchee National Forest south of Cashmere on June 8.

In fall 2014, RunWenatchee will put on the Lake Chelan Shore to Shore Marathon, Half-Marathon and 10K on Sept. 6; the River Run Half-Marathon, 10K and 5K in Wenatchee on Sept. 20; and the Turkey on the Run 12K and 5K in Wenatchee on Nov. 27.

This year’s Turkey on the Run is coming up on Nov. 28.

“Our event schedule has a good mix of both road runs and trails runs, and we also are offering a wide variety of race distances,” says Steve Maher of RunWenatchee. “One of our primary goals is to appeal to as many runners and walkers as possible, and we believe the kind of races we put on reflect that.”

The distances for the Horse Lake Trail Run haven’t been determined yet but RunWenatchee is hoping to offer a half-marathon distance as well as a 5-mile run. During the inaugural Horse Lake event this past spring, a 10-mile run and a 5-mile run were held. The event will again be a benefit for the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust, which owns the property near Wenatchee where the race is held.

Founded at a running club in 2008, RunWenatchee holds races, weekly social runs and walks, and track workouts during the year. The races are geared for both locals and visitors. RunWenatchee also publishes a website, e-newsletter and Facebook page.
