Running club is geared for all fitness levels

When Kit Cammack came to RunWenatchee about starting a weekly running club, she didn’t have far to point to for an example of such an effort’s success.

Herself, for example.

Cammack, an Eastmont High School graduate who played soccer and basketball growing up, was living and working in Colorado Springs, Colo., when she learned of a running club there, Jack Quinn’s, and began doing its weekly runs. Before long, she was adding events to her schedule.

“I’d never done a race until after I started doing Jack Quinn’s Running Club,” says Kit, who graduated from Western Washington University and the University of St. Augustine and is employed today as a physical therapist at Biosports in Wenatchee.

The first Club RunWenatchee event was held Jan. 3, 2013, when more than 50 runners and walkers showed up and completed either a 5K or 10K on the Apple Capital Recreation Loop Trail in Wenatchee. After just its first month in existence, the club had seen more than 200 participants complete at least one of the monthly runs/walks.

Here is how Club RunWenatchee works: Each Thursday, participants check-in at a table next to the starting and ending spot (check RunWenatchee’s Facebook for regular updates on locations), anytime between 5 and 6 p.m. We will be there at the table to answer any questions, and again there is no cost. Participants then take off running or walking at any point during that hour (this is not a race). They can do either a 5K or a 10K – both will be on the loop trail. Upon return, if they want, they can join other runners and walkers for some socializing.

After completing 10 of these weekly runs, participants will receive a coveted Club RunWenatchee shirt!

This is not a club geared for elite runners – although we welcome all levels. Rather, it’s meant to help people get more fit and to feel more comfortable running and walking – and perhaps start doing events. It’s also a great way to meet people.

It’s as simple as that. We hope to see you on Thursdays! Onward!
