RunWenatchee adds third distance to Horse Lake Trail Runs
WENATCHEE — The Horse Lake Trail Runs are now a trio.
RunWenatchee, which puts on the May 1 event in the Wenatchee Foothills, announced today it has added a 12-kilometer course to Horse Lake’s traditional half-marathon and 5-mile races.
“The 12K provides another option for trail runners during Horse Lake,” said race director Joel Rhyner of RunWenatchee. “That distance, which is 7.5 miles, is between our other two distances. If someone wants a course longer than 5 miles but shorter than 13.1 miles (the half-marathon distance), this is ideal for them.”
The 12K will start at the same time — 9 a.m. on May 1 — as the 5-mile race. The half-marathon is scheduled to go off at 8:30 a.m.
The 12K course takes in parts of both the 5-Mile and Half-Marathon courses. Maps for all three courses have been completed by event sponsor SCJ Alliance and can be found on this page: https://www.runwenatchee.com/event/horse-lake-trail-runs/

“What makes the Horse Lake Trail Runs unique is that we take people to places on this amazing property that they normally can’t go,” Rhyner said.
The annual event is a fundraiser for the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust, which owns and manages the 1,700-acre Horse Lake Reserve. Proceeds generated from the event are used for new and better trails in the Wenatchee Foothills.
RunWenatchee will hold a work party at Horse Lake Reserve from 5 to 7 p.m. on April 20. If you are interested in volunteering that night, please email your name and contact info to info@runwenatchee.com.
On April 12, the Trails In Motion Film Festival, presented by Volyn Law, will be held at 7 p.m. at the Numerica Performing Arts Center in downtown Wenatchee. The film festival serves as the official kick-off to the trail running season. For tickets, visit http://www.numericapac.org/event/trails-in-motion-4/.
