WENATCHEE — The next Wenatchee Marathon will be held on April 18, 2015, organizing group TedDriven announced Wednesday.
The event will again include marathon, half-marathon, 10K and kids race distances and a health and fitness expo held the day before, said Lynda Finegold, a co-founder of the race along with Ian and Wendy Crossland. As they have in recent years, the runs will start and finish at Wenatchee Avenue and First Street in downtown Wenatchee.
“Even though we are many months off, we are already looking forward to next year’s event,” Finegold said. “It has become the Wenatchee Valley’s signature endurance race in the spring and we have tons of fun putting it on and seeing the good energy it generates for the community.”
This year’s Wenatchee Marathon, which celebrated its 10th anniversary on April 19, attracted about 1,250 registrants, about 250 more than the previous year. For the first time, the event included the health and fitness expo at the Wenatchee Convention Center. The expo had an estimated 2,000 attendees.
The Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce estimates the marathon pumps about $330,000 into the local economy each year.
Over the past few years, TedDriven — which also holds the Leavenworth Oktoberfest Marathon and Half-Marathon each October — has contributed about $35,000 annually to cancer research lab and local charities. TedDriven is named after Lynda Finegold’s late husband, Ted, who passed away in 2010 from cancer.
