Winthrop Marathon goes to Wenatchee runner

WINTHROP — Wenatchee’s Marcell McArthur captured the Winthrop Marathon on Sunday, defeating hometown favorite James DeSalvo by
about five minutes.
McArthur covered the 26.2-mile course, which sees a net elevation drop of 1,300 feet, in 2 hours, 43 minutes and 11 seconds. DeSalvo was clocked in 2:48:12, followed by Tacoma’s Michael Lynes in 2:53:58.
The women’s marathon was won by Jacqueline Post of Spokane Valley in 3:21:01. Post held off Andrea Torng of Playa Del Ray, Calif., who finished in 3:21:50. Coming in third was Sasha Nunke of Mountain View, Calif., who had a time of 3:26:55.
Meanwhile, several runners from Chelan and Douglas counties had top-level finishes in the event’s half-marathon.
East Wenatchee’s Dean Brim took third place in the men’s race, completing the course in 1:32:55; Wenatchee’s Jose Garza was fourth in 1:32:59; and East Wenatchee’s Ryan Parkhill was ninth in 1:41:39. The race was won by Bellingham’s Casey Barten in 1:19:55.
In the women’s half-marathon, Wenatchee’s Stephanie Skaar was third in 1:39:03; Chelan’s Niki Kobs was fourth in 1:39:39, East Wenatchee’s Jennifer Leonhardt was seventh in 1:43:43.
Bellingham’s Meghan Manaois captured the race in 1:34:06.
A total of 186 runners completed either the marathon or half-marathon.
